Problem Solving Techniques
Approach Challenges with Confidence, Clarity, and Creativity
These exercises will help you reframe obstacles, access solutions, and transform problems into portals for growth and innovation.
Root Cause Inquiry
Purpose: Understand the deeper cause behind recurring challenges.
- Ask yourself: “What is this situation showing me about myself?”
- Use the 5 Whys method: Ask “why?” five times to uncover the root issue.
- Look for emotional patterns or limiting beliefs beneath the surface.
Duration: 10–15 minutes
Creative Reframing
Purpose: Shift your perspective to reveal new possibilities.
- Instead of asking “What’s wrong?”, ask: “What’s trying to emerge?”
- Turn the problem into a “How might I…” question (e.g. “How might I grow from this?”)
- Visualise the situation as a puzzle designed to grow your strengths.
Duration: 10 minutes
Solution Mapping
Purpose: Generate multiple options and clarify the best next step.
- Write your problem in the centre of a page.
- Draw branches with possible responses (practical, emotional, intuitive).
- Identify what’s in your control vs. what’s not.
- Circle 1–2 most aligned, doable actions.
Duration: 15–20 minutes
The Observer Technique
Purpose: Detach from emotional reactivity and view the situation with clarity.
- Close your eyes and imagine stepping outside of the problem as a neutral observer.
- What do you see? What patterns are unfolding?
- Ask: “If I were coaching someone else through this, what would I say?”
Duration: 5–7 minutes
Power Questions
Purpose: Use high-quality questions to unlock solutions.
- What would this look like if it were easy?
- What part of me already knows how to handle this?
- Who could I ask for guidance or support?
- What’s the most loving, empowered response I can choose?
Duration: As needed, for journaling or contemplation
