Find work that could suit you
Not sure what to apply for? Start with what you enjoy, what you can do and the working hours you need.
1. Write down what matters to you
- Which tasks do you enjoy: helping people, organising, making things or solving problems?
- What have you done in work, study, volunteering or everyday life?
- What hours, travel distance and working arrangements could work for you?
You can write these on paper. You do not need previous paid work to start.
2. Try a free skills assessment
The National Careers Service assessment suggests careers based on your answers about what you enjoy and what motivates you. Treat the suggestions as possibilities to explore.
3. Compare two jobs
Use the job profiles to read about typical tasks, entry routes, working patterns and skills. Choose two jobs and note what appeals to you and what you would need to learn.
Your next step: find one real advert and check its actual requirements.
